Job summary

MercyOne Medical Group is hiring for a part-time, evening-shift Patient Access/Registration role in Cedar Falls, IA. The position involves gathering patient demographic and financial information, obtaining signatures, and registering patients for tests and procedures.

Responsibilities include handling phone calls, bed assignments, and communications with the house supervisor; ensuring HIPAA/EMTALA compliance; and escorting patients to the correct areas.

Qualifications

• Reads, writes, and understands English; communicates with patients and staff.
• Completion of Medical Secretary program or general office training preferred.
• 1 year medical office experience (scheduling, insurance, or registration) preferred; hospital experience helpful.
• Strong computer skills; Windows experience; database/mainframe systems familiarity.
• Ability to convey positive image and communicate tactfully and professionally.
• Ability to work with diverse groups and under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Gathers patient demographic and financial information; obtains signatures.
• Answers phones and assigns beds; communicates with house supervisor.
• Informs patients of hospital rules; secures armbands and signatures on documents.
• Pre-registers scheduled tests and scans information.
• Ensures HIPAA and EMTALA compliance; follows safety and infection control policies.
• Transports/escorts patients to assigned areas and provides patient greeting at registration.
