Job summary

MercyOne Northeast Iowa is seeking a part-time Medical Secretary for the Evening Shift to collect patient demographics and financial information, prepare documentation, and escort patients to assigned areas. You will answer phones, handle bed assignments, obtain signatures, scan documents, pre-register tests, and ensure HIPAA and EMTALA compliance.

Previous medical office experience is preferred, with strong computer skills and clear communication.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and understand English.
• Completion of Medical Secretary program or similar office training.
• One year of medical office experience preferred.
• Strong computer skills and familiarity with Windows.
• Ability to communicate professionally with staff and patients.

Responsibilities

• Gathers patient demographic and financial information and obtains signatures.
• Answers phones, bed assignments, and communicates with the house supervisor.
• Informs patients of regulations and secures necessary signatures.
• Determines need for ABN waiver and related documentation.
• Escort patients to designated areas and meet/register patients.
• Scans physician orders, licenses, insurance cards and other documents.
• Pre-registers all scheduled tests.
• Follows HIPAA, EMTALA and safety/infection control policies.
