Job summary

MercyOne Northeast Iowa is seeking a part-time patient access clerk for the Cedar Falls area. The role involves gathering patient demographics and insurance details, ensuring proper documentation, and guiding patients through the check-in process.

You will handle sign-offs, verify eligibility, and coordinate with departments to ensure smooth patient flow while adhering to HIPAA and hospital policies. This position supports Women’s and Outpatient services during the evening shift.

Qualifications

• Requires reading, writing and understanding English, and effective communication with patients and staff.
• One year medical office experience preferred; hospital experience and medical terminology appreciated.
• Strong computer skills and Windows experience; familiarity with database software and mainframe systems.

Responsibilities

• Gathers patient demographic and financial information and obtains signatures.
• Answers telephone; bed assignments made; communicates with house supervisor.
• Informs patient of hospital regulations; secures armband and signatures on documents.
• Determines need for hospital issued ABN waiver.
• Escorts patient to assigned area; greets patients at check-in.
• Scans physician orders, drivers licenses, insurance cards, consents, etc.
• Pre-register all scheduled tests.
• Follows HIPAA and EMTALA; adheres to safety policies.
