Job summary

Trinity Health on MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center is seeking a part-time Medical Secretary/Registration specialist for the Evening Shift. You will gather patient demographic and financial information, assign beds, prepare necessary documentation, and escort patients to the appropriate areas.

Pre-register scheduled tests, collect signatures, answer calls, and coordinate with the house supervisor. The role requires English proficiency, medical office experience, and strong computer skills.

Qualifications

• Requires ability to read, write and understand English and communicate effectively.
• Completion of Medical Secretary program or general office training preferred.
• One year medical office experience (scheduling, insurance, or registration) preferred.
• Hospital experience and/or medical terminology preferred.
• Strong computer skills, Windows experience.
• Database software and mainframe information systems familiarity.
• Ability to communicate tactfully with staff, patients and the public.
• Ability to work with diverse groups and under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Gathers patient demographic and financial information.
• Obtains appropriate signatures and answers telephone.
• Answers telephone, bed assignments made, stat cleans ordered and communicates to the house supervisor.
• Informs patient of hospital regulations, secures armband and obtains signatures on documents.
• Makes determinations regarding need for ABN waiver.
• Escort/transport patients to assigned area.
• Meet and greet patients as registration begins.
• Scans physician orders, driver licenses, insurance cards, consents, etc.
• Pre-register all scheduled tests.
• Adheres to safety, infection control and colleague health policies and procedures.
• Follows HIPAA and EMTALA regulations per hospital policy.
