Sheridan Community Hospital in Sheridan, MI is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to join our front-line registration team. You will be the first contact patients encounter, ensuring a welcoming experience and smooth access to care.

Key duties include greeting patients, handling multi-line phones, registering in the EHR, verifying insurance, collecting payments, and maintaining privacy. The role supports multiple service lines with a team-focused culture.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous customer service experience required.
• Healthcare or clinical experience preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Ability to learn and navigate EHR systems.
• Strong computer skills in common software
• Typing proficiency is required (50 WPM).
• Detail-oriented, dependable and adaptable.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, patient-facing environment.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients in person and by phone with professionalism and compassion.
• Answer multi-line phones and direct calls appropriately.
• Register patients accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits.
• Collect payments and explain financial responsibilities.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
• Assist with registration for Emergency, Outpatient, Lab, Imaging and other services.
• Distribute and process required forms and documentation.
• Provide directions and support to patients and visitors.
• Maintain accurate and complete patient records.
• Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
