Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Registration Services team member to support patient intake, insurance verification, and scheduling across departments. The role involves accurate data entry, insurance pre-authorization checks, and coordinating multiple services for patients in a fast-paced environment.

Under supervision, you will handle demographic and insurance collection for ED and L&D, collect patient liabilities, and assist with admissions, discharges, and related clerical tasks.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED required.
• Associate degree or certificate in healthcare-related field preferred.
• Proficient data-entry skills with attention to detail.
• Computer skills including Windows and ability to navigate systems.
• Customer service skills, verbal and written, with various internal and external customers.
• Ability to work in a high-volume, team-oriented environment.
• English speaking, reading and writing skills.
• 1-2 years of data entry and/or customer service experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Accurately obtain and enter demographic, insurance and other related patient information into the scheduling system.
• Verify patient insurance coverage and pre-authorization requirements; follow guidelines to obtain pre-certification and referrals.
• Obtain and verify workers' compensation and automobile coverage when required.
• Schedule Radiology, Lab and basic ancillary service appointments.
• Complete demographic/insurance collection for ED and Labor & Delivery.
• Coordinate the provision of multiple services to patients.
• Collect patient liabilities (deductibles, copays, coinsurance, etc.) prior to or on the date of service.
• Perform Surgical Day admissions; bed transfers, discharges and admissions tasks.
• Provide patients with information regarding personal preparation for procedures.
• Assess patients' financial needs and refer to financial counseling.
• Perform clerical duties and maintain records; complete online death certificate registry.
• Receive and secure patient valuables.
• Monitor and maintain patient access and revenue cycle work queues.
