Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a dedicated Patient Access professional to support check-in/check-out workflows in a healthcare setting. The role involves collecting demographics, verifying insurance, activating patient portals, and guiding patients through errands and appointments.

Ideal candidates have healthcare/customer service experience, strong communication, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist patients as they arrive.
  • Manage patient flow with interdisciplinary team members.
  • Complete patient check-in by collecting, verifying, and scanning legal IDs and insurance cards.
  • Enter demographics and insurance information accurately.
  • Coordinate benefits and determine participating and non-participating insurance coverage.
  • Explain financial responsibilities and payment options.
  • Facilitate completion of necessary patient forms.
  • Collect third-party liability or workers’ compensation documents and copays when appropriate.
  • Resolve patient checklists and registration issues.
  • Enroll and activate patient portal accounts and elevate issues as needed.
  • Handle patient and family inquiries.
  • Complete patient check-out, schedule appointments/tests/procedures, and document appointment notes.
  • Collect out-of-pocket payments and provide visit summaries and future itineraries.
  • Conduct rounds to ensure patients are checked in and visitors are comfortable.
  • Assist physician practices with administrative aspects of patient care.
  • Assist with chart preparation, document scanning, MD order transcription, RightFax, shared email, work queues, benefit verifications, and other Patient Access functions.
  • Answer patient calls, manage and triage inquiries, and document information in patient records.
  • Cross-train to independently staff Greeter, Call Center, and Physical Therapy Patient Access areas

Requirements
  • Two years in a healthcare or related customer service field
  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), may include specialized or vocational courses
  • Strong computer skills, with proficiency in office automated tools
