Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Patient Registration Specialist to support outpatient and Emergency Department patients. You will correctly identify patients in the hospital system, assist with pre/post-registration tasks, and resolve registration-related errors to ensure a smooth patient journey.

The role emphasizes customer service, data entry accuracy, and comfort with Epic/HIS platforms. Training across departments and roles is expected.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Certificate in healthcare-related field preferred.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills required.
  • General computer experience required.
  • Ability to type fluently, accurately, and quickly required.
  • Insurance background preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Previous medical administrative experience and/or health care education courses preferred.
  • Knowledge of Epic health information system preferred.
  • Sit/stand up to 8 hours per day, including 4+ hours at a time.

Responsibilities

  • Complete the full patient registration process for outpatient and/or Emergency Department patients.
  • Correctly identify and validate patients in the hospital information system.
  • Identify and report possible identity theft situations.
  • Complete pre-registration and post-registration tasks, including demographics, contacts, orders, providers, diagnoses, insurance, guarantor verification, eligibility, and cash collections.
  • Resolve registration-related patient, account, and claim work queue errors.
  • Cross-train across all relevant areas and locations, including outpatient and Emergency Department services.
  • Greet and direct patients and visitors.
  • Monitor and enforce visitor policies when applicable.
  • Answer internal and external facility calls and provide information about services.
  • Promote MyChart and patient self-service capabilities.
  • Assist patients with Welcome Kiosk and On My Way technology.
  • Monitor patient arrivals and journeys throughout visits.
  • Obtain insurance referrals and pre-certifications to reduce authorization denials.
  • Obtain medical license numbers, NPI, and UPIN for new outpatient provider entries.
  • Coordinate with clinical, diagnostic, physician practice, and revenue cycle departments to support patient experience, clean claims, and payment.

Job description

Requirements

  • Certificate or degree in a health care-related field preferred
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills required
  • General computer experience required
  • Ability to type fluently, accurately, and quickly required
  • Insurance background preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • Previous medical administrative experience and/or health care-related education courses preferred
  • Knowledge of the Epic health information system preferred
  • Ability to sit or stand up to 8 hours per day, including 4 or more hours at a time
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for data entry
  • Ability to walk frequently and push up to 250 pounds in a wheelchair
  • Ability to occasionally carry or lift up to 15 pounds
  • Hearing sufficient for normal conversation and general vision
  • Must complete employment history for the past seven years and provide a full legal name and current home address
