Job summary

The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB Health) seeks a Patient Services Specialist I to enhance the patient experience by coordinating clerical and medical activities, patient registration, and access to UTMB services for new and returning patients.

Responsibilities include delivering high-quality customer service, scheduling, registration, and ensuring compliance with Medicare and third-party coverage. On-site, full-time role supporting the Clinic Netwrk Operation in Texas City.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree is required, with no formal experience necessary.
• Strong PC skills including Excel, Word, and database management.
• Analytical skills and ability to collect and trend data.
• Excellent written and oral communication and patient care knowledge.
• Problem-solving abilities and strong human relations.

Responsibilities

• Provides high level customer service in all interactions with internal and external customers.
• Answers calls accurately with exceptional customer service.
• Ensures callers' needs are met and information is accurate.
• Documents calls and triages appropriately to ensure patient satisfaction and safety.
• Acts as patient advocate and coordinates with departments to meet goals.
• Maintains patient confidentiality across channels.
• Verifies eligibility and pre-registers patients with third-party coverage.
• Coordinates appointments and preps paperwork for visits.
• Communicates with patients and staff about access or authorization obstacles.
• Disposes of patient information securely and adheres to internal controls.

Education

Associate’s degree and no experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience relevant to the role may be considered for this position.
