Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Patient Access Specialist to support patient scheduling, registration, and insurance verification in a fast-paced healthcare setting. You will ensure a positive first impression, accurate data collection, and adherence to HIPAA and organizational policies, while coordinating with various hospital departments.

The role emphasizes exceptional customer service, English proficiency, and the ability to multi-task across Epic-based workflows.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent is required.
2–3 years of customer service or medical office experience preferred.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Proficiency in computer data-entry/typing (40 wpm).
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Strong organizational, time management, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

Foster a patient-first environment and provide high-quality customer service.
Respond to questions and concerns and escalate as necessary.
Ensure patient confidentiality per HIPAA regulations and proper data handling in the registration system.
Assist with scheduling and directing patients through Epic and NMHC systems.
Gather accurate patient demographic information and verify insurance eligibility where applicable.
Support multiple departments and collaborate to improve registration and scheduling processes.
Participate in training, quality assurance, and process-improvement activities.
