Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Must complete Revenue Cycle Orientation courses within 6 months of hire
• Two years of related work experience preferred, preferably in healthcare or customer service
• Ability to effectively communicate with individuals from varying socio-economic backgrounds
• Familiarity with medical terminology
• Ability to verify demographic information and insurance benefits
• Proficient with office equipment and basic computer programs (Word, Excel)
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Customer-service oriented with ability to interact with staff at all levels
• EPIC EHR experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Schedule patients for hospital services accurately and promptly
• Pre-register scheduled accounts via communication with patients, physicians or sources
• Create registration records and obtain signatures and financial information
• Coordinate admission reservations and bed placement with nursing
• Obtain insurance eligibility, benefits, authorizations, and referrals
• Update demographic and insurance information as needed
• Contact patients about balances and establish financial arrangements
• Serve as primary documentation source for access and billing staff
• Interact with patients empathetically to explain hospital financial policies
• Communicate with third-party payers to obtain necessary authorizations and approvals
• Verify and document information during pre-registration to ensure completeness
• Ensure confidentiality of patient charts and scheduling information
• Coordinate with departments to obtain required information before services
• Refer uninsured/underinsured patients to financial counselors as needed
• Enter patient data into tracking systems and verify orders
• Explain registration forms and obtain signatures from patients or representatives
• Ensure patient identification bands are secured after registration
• Post self-pay balances and balance cash drawers appropriately
• Provide information for Medicaid and Halifax Health charity programs
• Assist with insurance issues and activation of coverage
• Support financial counseling staff and departments with funding sources
