Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health in Texas seeks an Access Services Representative 2 to collect demographics, verify insurance, and handle patient financial responsibilities. You will cross-train across areas and mentor peers.

Qualifications

• 2 years of healthcare or customer service experience or education equivalency required.
• Good listening, interpersonal and communication skills and professional telephone etiquette.
• Maintain a professional demeanor in stressful and emotional environments.
• Exhibits high empathy and communicates well with patients and families during trauma.
• Ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an organized manner.
• Excellent data entry, numeric, typing and computer navigational skills; basic computer skills and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Conducts patient interviews to obtain demographics and financial data for registration, insurance verification, precertification and billing.
• Knows patient flow processes in each area.
• Identifies process improvements to promote team concepts and revenue cycle functions while improving patient experience.
• Interacts with other areas to provide information on patient delays and schedule changes.
• Verifies insurance eligibility and collects patient liability per policies; negotiates payment arrangements as needed.
• Establishes patient liability and advises deposit requirements per policy.
• May perform cashiering duties according to policies; handles duties across department.
• Assists patients to nursing units with directions or mobility aid; escalates issues to management.
• Adheres to compliance for order validation, cash policy, government payor and patient safety.
• Conducts formal training and serves as a resource to others.
• Accepts new responsibilities from leadership and performs revenue cycle duties at multiple locations.
