Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist in Pennsylvania to serve as a liaison among patients, payers, and the Patient Financial Services team. You will collect and verify demographic information, secure payments, and help maximize hospital reimbursement.

Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with EMTALA, HIPAA, and other regulations, delivering outstanding customer service, and safeguarding patient identity during admission. Bilingual abilities are a plus in some markets.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years patient registration and insurance verification experience in healthcare preferred.
• Fluency in English; Spanish helpful in some markets.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all other hospital and government regulations applicable to Admissions.
• Provide excellent customer service at all times by meeting customer needs and building relationships.
• Identify and triage patients on arrival to ensure proper screening and routing.
• Answer telephone professionally, record messages and relay to appropriate staff.
• Obtain signatures on required forms and demographic information for the billing system.
• Verify insurance benefits and confirm payor and plan accuracy in patient accounting.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Maximize collections by addressing at the point of service in a customer-friendly manner.
• Scan and file registration and clinical documents into the system.
• Assist with patient transfers between facilities as needed.
