Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist in Mansfield, TX to serve as a liaison between patients, payers and clinical staff. You will obtain and verify demographic information, secure payment responsibility, and maximize hospital reimbursement at the time of service.

The role requires high school diploma, 2 years in patient registration/insurance verification, and strong customer service. Fluency in English is required; bilingual in Spanish is a plus in some markets.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) required.
• Fluency in English; Spanish proficiency preferred in some markets.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and applicable regulations.
• Provide excellent customer service and build relationships with customers.
• Identify and triage patients upon arrival to the hospital.
• Answer telephone professionally, record messages, and relay to staff.
• Obtain signatures on required forms and consents.
• Enter complete demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle.
• Verify insurance benefits and correct payor/plan in the system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Pursue collections at the time of service in a patient-friendly way.
• Scan registrations and clinical docs; maintain medical records.
• Coordinate transfers between hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians, and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer and logs; keep visitor/vendor log updated.
