Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist in Rockwall, TX to serve as a liaison between patients, payers and the healthcare team. You will facilitate patient registration, verify insurance, and secure out-of-pocket payments to maximize hospital reimbursement.

Responsibilities include ensuring accurate demographics, confirming benefits, obtaining authorizations, and protecting patient information under EMTALA, HIPAA, and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting, preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience, strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors, required.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• Working knowledge of MS Office (MS Word, Excel and Outlook), strongly preferred.
• Position requires fluency in English; written and oral communication.
• Fluency in both English & Spanish is a requirement in the El Paso Market.

Responsibilities

• Maintain EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and regulations in Admissions and Medical Records handling.
• Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships.
• Identify and triage patients upon arrival to the hospital.
• Answer telephone professionally and relay messages to medical staff.
• Obtain signatures on required forms and consents.
• Enter complete demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits and correct payor and plan in the system.
• Obtain required insurance authorizations where applicable.
• Assist with collections at the time of service in a courteous manner.
• Scan and maintain medical records and documents.
• Coordinate patient transfers between hospitals as needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
