Summary:

The Patient Access Representative is often the first point of contact for patients and sets the first impression of our healthcare system. They accurately register patients for healthcare services, guide them into the system of care, and serve as a resource for patients and their families. The representative is responsible for all aspects of the patient registration process.

Responsibilities:
  1. Greet and incorporate patients and families into our system of care, ensuring positive customer service through a caring, professional, and helpful demeanor.
  2. Verify patient identities, record relevant information in electronic medical records, create new entries when necessary, and update demographic and insurance information.
  3. Handle, understand, and explain complex and sensitive information, particularly health insurance coverage, benefits, and related documentation, while adhering to privacy and compliance standards.
  4. Organize and schedule patient appointments within the system and direct patients throughout the facility as needed.
  5. Explain and collect co-payments, deposits, and outstanding balances, using tools like price estimation to inform patients of their financial obligations.
  6. Support patients during registration, including explaining and completing complex forms for regulatory and accreditation compliance.
  7. Assist with adjacent tasks such as organizing provider schedules, switchboard operations, or inventory management for admitted patients, as needed.
Other Information:
Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience in customer service
  • Experience with business systems like EMR, POS, or inventory systems

Preferred:

  • Experience or training in medical terminology
  • Experience with electronic medical recordkeeping systems
