  • Shift Time: 3-11:30 PM, Monday - Friday
  • Full Time and Daily Pay!

Role Purpose

The Patient Access Representative is often the first point of contact for patients and must exemplify high standards of customer service, compassion, and professionalism, aligning with BJC's mission, vision, and values. The role involves facilitating all aspects of patient entry into BJC facilities, requiring emotional intelligence, professionalism, and the ability to make personal connections. Responsibilities include accurate collection of demographics and insurance information, benefit verification, and point-of-service collection to maximize reimbursements and prevent denials. Accurate selection from the Master Patient Index (MPI) is critical for patient safety. The candidate must maintain knowledge of insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines, and federal, state, and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

  1. Utilize critical thinking to solve problems, anticipate patient needs, and respond effectively. Communicate professionally and positively with patients, families, and staff in person, via computer, or by phone to enhance patient experience, optimize reimbursements, and reduce denials.
  2. Perform hospital registration and scheduling within multiple BJC systems, ensuring proper patient identification, insurance verification, document scanning, and order validation. Provide patients with instructions, financial education, and collect payments accurately.
  3. Comply with regulatory guidelines such as Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP), HIPAA, Patient Bill of Rights, Advance Directives, Consent to Treat, EMTALA, and JCAHO requirements. Ensure HIPAA acknowledgements are completed by patients.
  4. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring alertness and safe work practices at all times.
