Job summary

MercyOne Medical Group in Mason City, IA seeks a patient access specialist to perform outpatient and inpatient registration, insurance verification, and collection of patient liabilities at check-in. You will interact with patients, families, and physician offices to ensure accurate information and payment collection.

The role requires a high school diploma, knowledge of medical terminology, and experience in hospital registration or insurance verification. Weekend shifts are included.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Hospital registration or insurance verification experience preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic coding & procedural coding required.
• Ability to explain insurance benefits.
• HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA required within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Validate/obtain and enter demographic, clinical, financial, and insurance information into the patient accounting system by interviewing the patient, family member or guarantor.
• Registration across multiple settings and patient types (Inpatients, Outpatients, Ambulatory Surgery, ED, etc.).
• Prepare patient estimate and inform patient/guarantor of liabilities; collect co-pays, co-insurances, deductibles, deposits and balances at check-in; document payments in system and provide receipts.
• Obtain signed physician orders for tests/procedures from physicians/offices.
• Prepare identification bracelets and patient ID labels; obtain signatures on required forms; audit assets if needed.
