Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a part-time Patient Access Specialist to greet patients, verify demographics and insurance, complete walk-in registrations, and collect balances. The role requires HIPAA/EMTALA understanding, Medicare knowledge, and strong communication.

Proficiency with ADT systems and Microsoft tools is preferred, with a focus on accuracy and customer service. Weekend/holiday coverage is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; patient access or billing experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Medicare, HIPAA and EMTALA rules; pre-certification requirements.
• Ability to read/interpret safety and procedure documents.
• Strong numerical/mathematical aptitude and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients arriving for appointments with courtesy.
• Verify and update patient demographics and insurance data.
• Complete registration for walk-in patients and verify changes.
• Verify benefits; collect out-of-pocket liabilities and balances.
• Follow financial clearance policy when needed; refer to Financial Counselor.
• Close visits: schedule follow-ups and gather required documents.
• Maintain knowledge of payer rules, pre-authorization and insurance plans.
• Flag issues to management for service/process improvements.
• Meet productivity and accuracy targets; maintain professional conduct.
