Job summary

Oregon Health & Science University is seeking an on-site Patient Access Assistant to welcome patients in the Emergency Department and assist with registration, demographic verification, and initial insurance coordination. You will support front-end billing activities and liaise with clinical teams to ensure a smooth patient flow.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in a medical office or patient registration is preferred.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in a high-volume environment.
• Ability to greet patients professionally and direct inquiries accurately.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and families in person and by phone with warmth and professionalism.
• Collect and verify demographic information and insurance details for registration.
• Perform insurance verification and financial clearance tasks as needed.
• Explain billing processes and available financial assistance options to patients.
• Maintain knowledge of department locations and provide directions as requested.
• Coordinate with clinical teams, social work, and case management for complex cases.
