Job summary

Qualifications

• 1-2+ years of demonstrated Clerical/ Administrative Customer Service experience
• 1-2+ years of demonstrated professional Customer Service/Clerical experience in a hospital environment
• Typing requirement (minimum 25-30 wpm)
• Experience in the basic computer software programs
• Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills
• Requires good analytical and problem solving ability

Responsibilities

• Promptly fields and/or directs incoming calls, responds to patient and/or staff inquiries with resolution or escalation
• Ensures all registration and admission forms are presented to and verified by patient/guarantor before signing
• Gathers and verifies all appropriate, confidential health and financial information from patients while using various computer software to assure payment for all authorized services
• Enters new patient data and/or verifies patient records are up-to-date, confirms the completeness of the electronic health record (EHR)
• Complies with all organizational, state, and federal laws and registrations related to patient privacy (HIPAA)
• Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits for non-emergent cases and obtains pre-authorizations as required
• Communicates CMS coverage/eligibility information to the patient and explains Medicare forms
• Identifies Medicare ABNs and maintains authorizations within the system
• Understands Medicare/Medicaid guidelines and refers to CMS rules as needed
• Interacts with Case Management and Utilization Review as required
• Lifts boxes up to 30 pounds and assists with transporting patients
