Job summary

Advocate Health seeks a Patient Access Representative to create the initial electronic health record and register patients at the point of care, ensuring accuracy and privacy in a fast-paced environment. You will verify demographic and insurance information, explain financial responsibilities to patients, coordinate with Financial Advocates, and support clinicians with documentation and scheduling.

Qualifications

• High school graduate required.
• Strong customer service skills and HIPAA awareness.
• Knowledge of health insurance basics and plans.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
• Experience with EPIC EMR and insurance tools preferred.

Responsibilities

• Creates the initial electronic health record and ensures no duplicates.
• Checks in and registers patients; verifies demographics and insurance.
• Discusses co-pays and financial responsibilities with patients.
• Maintains confidentiality per HIPAA and related laws.
• Knows insurance plans and refers to Financial Advocates when needed.
• Ensures compliance with HIPAA, EMTALA, and other regulations.
• Schedules appointments and communicates prep instructions and directions.
• Provides excellent customer service and assists with transportation or interpreters.
• Monitors and processes electronic health record work queues.
