Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Patient Services Representative I to support pulmonary clinic operations in Rome, GA, with cross-training to Cartersville as needed. The role focuses on patient check-in, accurate demographics/insurance data, and explaining financial responsibilities.

The position requires strong communication, customer service, and HIPAA compliance, with a 40-hour workweek and full-time status. DA/ADT familiarity is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; patient access (scheduling, registration and financial clearance), insurance verification, billing or certified medical assistant experience preferred.
• Ability to identify issues, examine data and draw logical conclusions based on information available.
• Knowledge of Medicare, HIPAA, EMTALA rules and regulations; comply with updates on insurance pre-certification requirements.
• Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel and ADT software is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients arriving for their appointments. Monitors patient flow to ensure patients are cared for efficiently and courteously.
• Verifies and updates patient demographic and insurance information.
• Completes the registration process for walk-in patients and handles changes to demographics/insurance.
• Obtains and collects the patient’s out-of-pocket liability and past balances as applicable.
• Follows the Financial Clearance policy when authorization is not completed.
• Directs patients to Financial Counselor when financial assistance is needed.
• Performs visit closure and schedules follow-up appointments.
• Maintains knowledge of payer requirements, pre-authorization rules and accepted insurance plans.
• Communicates issues to management for service improvement.
• Meets productivity and 98% accuracy targets and collaborates with staff.
