Job summary

AHN Neighborhood Hospital in Pittsburgh is seeking a Patient Access Specialist/Front Office to serve as the liaison between patients, payers and care teams. You will collect demographics, verify insurance, and secure out-of-pocket responsibilities to maximize reimbursement.

You will greet patients, answer calls, obtain signatures, maintain records, assist with transfers, and ensure a smooth front desk operation in a busy hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare and Medicaid payors required.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• Fluency in English; MS Office experience (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all regulations in Admissions and Medical Records.
• Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships.
• Identify and triage patients upon arrival to the hospital.
• Answer calls professionally, record messages and relay to staff.
• Obtain signatures on forms and consents.
• Enter complete demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle.
• Verify insurance benefits and correct payor/plan in the system.
• Obtain necessary insurance authorizations when applicable.
• Pursue collections at time of service in a customer-friendly manner.
• Scan and file registrations and clinical documents.
• Assist with patient transfers to other hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer and logs for patients, payments, transfers and admissions.
• Maintain visitor/vendor log.
