Job summary

Chesapeake Regional Healthcare is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to greet patients, guide them through their imaging journey, and assist with scheduling, pre-screening and financial discussions.

You will verify identities, collect necessary forms and insurance information, and ensure accurate registration communications across departments. Training is provided; prior healthcare exposure is a plus.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Preferred: Competency in Medical Terminology.
• Experience: No experience necessary; on-the-job training required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Greet all patients entering the facility.
• Verify identity and purpose for their visit.
• Ensure patients complete forms and collect insurance/ID cards.
• Update patient registration forms and administer required forms.
• Ensure patients review and sign safety questionnaires and authorizations.
• Review forms to clear patient for exam and gather details.
• Update departments with registration/script/order information; verify accuracy.
• Collect and record patient payments; discuss payment plans and Medicare ABNs.
• Count petty cash and reconcile daily payments for Billing Department.
• Assist with incoming calls and transfer appropriately.
• Call no-shows or rescheduled appointments; prep sign-out materials.
• Schedule walk-in X-Ray patients.
• Maintain documentation of film and CD transfers; sign out films.
• Keep reception area neat; restock magazines; tidy seating areas.
• Coordinate patient transportation when needed.
• Assemble paperwork packets for next-day exams based on scans.
• Ensure prior exams/studies are available or retrieved as needed.
• Check previous day’s paperwork and save electronic versions before destruction.
• Document and distribute CT prep kits.
• Assist in Scheduling, Entering Orders and Registrar tasks.
• Attend hospital orientations, meetings and trainings.
• Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling to ensure patient care.
