Job summary

Kolmac Integrated Behavioral Health in Washington, DC is seeking a Patient Access Specialist for Monday–Friday, 4:30 pm–9:00 pm. You will manage patient check-in, triage calls, handle co-pays, and ensure HIPAA compliance while guiding patients to the right staff.

The role requires 3+ years in a medical office setting, strong insurance/billing knowledge, and excellent communication skills. A valid driver's license is required. We offer comprehensive benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Three plus years in a medical office setting, hospital, or similar patient customer service environment; five plus years preferred.
• Working knowledge of medical insurance plans, billing, and regulations.
• Strong knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office products.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, professional telephone manners, interviewing and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities.
• Integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Manages scheduled appointments by checking in patients and alerting staff to patient presence.
• Directs walk-in patients to appropriate staff and collects relevant patient information while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
• Handles all incoming telephone calls and serves as a first point of contact with a friendly, professional demeanor.
• Routes calls, messages, and deliveries to appropriate staff promptly.
• Manages co-pay and self-pay amounts, documenting payments and outstanding balances.
• Receives clinical alerts and ensures adherence to patient restrictions and appointments with clinical staff.
• Assists with patient documentation, including chart availability and retention of UA and BAC records.
• Maintains front desk and waiting area cleanliness and order.
