Job summary

Qualifications

• Completion of high school education or equivalent.
• Proficient in Windows, Outlook, Word and Excel.
• Excellent customer service skills and telecommunications experience.
• Background in Patient Access and understanding of the hospital Revenue Cycle.
• Associate degree or equivalent combination of education/experience and medical terminology is preferred.
• Attains American Heart Association’s BLS certification within first 30 days of employment.
• Behavioral Health De-escalation Training Class within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and visitors and provides excellent patient experiences.
• Completes patient registrations collecting demographics, guarantor and financial information in person and via telephone.
• Validates patient insurance coverage via real-time eligibility and various tools.
• Requests payment for determined co-pays and prior balances, and manages the cash drawer.
• Collects copies of patient photo ID and insurance cards and scans to the EMR system.
• Explains patient forms and requests signatures.
• Initiates interpreter services for non-English speakers.
• Completes downtime procedures as outlined by departmental policy and assists with downtime recovery.
• Reviews quality of work and assists with EMR work queues to support a smooth claims process.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned.
