Job summary

Edgewater Health seeks a Patient Service Representative (PSR) to be the first point of contact for patients and visitors at our Gary, IN campus. You will perform patient registration, verify insurance, schedule appointments, and handle intake documentation while maintaining HIPAA compliance.

As part of a trauma-informed care environment, you will support access to care, coordinate communications among providers and staff, and help ensure accurate patient information in the EHR system.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical office operations, patient registration, and scheduling procedures.
• Knowledge of healthcare insurance plans, eligibility verification, referrals, and prior authorization processes.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, patient confidentiality standards, and healthcare compliance requirements.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care and customer service best practices.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist patients, visitors, and vendors in a professional, courteous, and compassionate manner.
• Register new patients and accurately update demographic, financial, insurance, and clinical information in the EHR system.
• Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, authorizations, referrals, and patient financial responsibility.
• Schedule, reschedule, and confirm appointments for medical, behavioral health, and support services as applicable.
• Collect copayments and outstanding balances in accordance with agency procedures.
• Answer and route incoming telephone calls promptly and professionally.
• Maintain accurate patient records and ensure timely scanning, filing, and indexing of documents into the EHR.
