Job summary

WellSpan Health is seeking a patient access associate to represent the system professionally. The role involves collecting patient information, explaining financial requirements, and scheduling appointments.

You will handle check-in/check-out, process payments, and assist with denials or billing questions as needed. Ideal candidates have strong communication skills, basic computer skills, and knowledge of medical office operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Post-high school vocational/business training preferred.
• Less than 1 year front desk or physician office experience required.
• Customer Service and Safety Training within 90 days required.
• Introduction to Medical Terminology within 180 days required.
• Insurance and Compliance Training within 1 year required.

Responsibilities

• Conducts patient interview to collect accurate financial, biographic and demographic information for patient visits.
• Explains financial requirements to the patient or responsible party and collects deposits or deductibles as required.
• Schedules patient appointments for patients with other provider offices including correct processing of necessary referral forms, pre-authorization forms, test instructions, patient benefit verification and transfer of patient information.
• Performs various duties for effective check-in and check-out of patients. Receives payment from patients via the kiosk, manually when applicable and issues receipts when requested.
• Reconciles daily cash and verified account balances. Performs other tasks related to end of day batch control, cash drawer etc.
• Researches billing questions and problems for patients with billing service.
• Actively supports process flow improvement and provides constructive feedback to Supervisor.
• Assists with service recovery.
