Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to ensure accurate patient identification, collect demographics and insurance eligibility, and facilitate timely payments while delivering superior customer service in a hospital setting. The role involves SOP adherence, proper documentation, and HIPAA compliance.

You will educate patients on financial responsibilities, assist with payment plans, coordinate with other departments, and support efficient patient flow at Morton Hospital

Qualifications

• 1–2 years hospital/clinic/physician office experience preferred.
• Aptitude for patient access tools, systems and technologies.
• Microsoft Office required; Meditech, Athena preferred.
• Excellent customer service and communications skills.
• Comfortable with the collection process.
• Comfortable with securing solutions for uninsured patients.
• Knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred.
• Proven ability to work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Greet and escort patients per customer service guidelines.
• Collect and verify patient demographics, insurance eligibility, and financial information; document in system.
• Adhere to department SOPs and use supporting tools, software, and websites.
• Identify current balances, educate patients on financial responsibilities, and collect payments.
• Screen self-pay patients and facilitate solution applications or payments as appropriate.
• Interview patients bedside as needed to facilitate timely solutions (ED only).
• Assist patients in establishing secured installment plans when applicable.
• Ensure all hospital and regulatory requirements are met (HIPAA, signatures, patient rights).
• Complete registration paperwork to facilitate efficient patient flow.
• Meet performance standards in quality, collections, customer service, and productivity.
• Deliver exemplary customer service and collaborate with patient access peers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
