Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Patient Access Associate to deliver high-level customer service while verifying and preparing patient accounts for inpatient and outpatient billing. Responsibilities include verifying insurance information, assisting in payment arrangements, collecting copays, and applying for financial assistance programs to maximize payment to the hospital and clinics.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree or High School Diploma with 2 years of customer service experience.
• Patient Access Certification (preferred).
• One year relevant experience in a medical office or hospital preferred.

Responsibilities

• Verify and enter all demographic data in registration systems on a daily basis.
• Verify insurance cards and signatures; scan documents into imaging systems.
• Complete the MSP questionnaire when applicable.
• Discuss Advanced Directives with patients and obtain copies for records.
• Review regulatory forms and billing information with patients.
• Verify insurance coverage and obtain authorizations as required.
• Collect payments and post them accurately; balance receipts.
