Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina in Columbia is seeking a PRN Patient Access Clerk to process preadmission and admission demographic and insurance data.

You will enter information in the hospital system, ensure data accuracy, and serve as a liaison between patients, financial counselors and patient accounting. This role supports the Patient Admissions Department with high service standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• 1 year of experience in customer service, health care or related field.
• Ability to interpret and apply financial procedures and regulations.
• Experience with hospital information systems or word processing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist Patient Access Representative I staff, guiding registration procedures and customer service best practices.
• Serve as subject matter expert in patient access workflows and policies for complex registration issues.
• Coordinate patient flow and scheduling, ensuring accurate registration and appointment check-in.
• Handle escalated patient inquiries or complaints and provide effective resolutions.
• Collaborate with clinical departments to address patient care needs and scheduling conflicts.
• Conduct quality assurance audits of registration data and documentation for accuracy.
• Assist with training new staff and ongoing education on patient access policies.
• Monitor KPIs related to registration accuracy, wait times and patient satisfaction.
• Participate in departmental meetings to improve operational efficiency and patient experience.
