Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to act as a liaison among patients, payers and the hospital revenue cycle. You will verify demographics, collect out-of-pocket responsibilities, and secure accurate insurance information at admission.

Responsibilities include EMTALA/HIPAA compliance, excellent customer service, registration tasks, and coordination of transfers. Strong MS Office skills and bilingual ability are a plus in some markets.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting, preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience, strongly preferred.
• Fluency in English; written and oral communication. Spanish language skills preferred in El Paso market.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and related regulations in Admissions and Medical Records.
• Provide excellent customer service by understanding customer needs and building relationships.
• Identify and correctly triage patients on arrival to protect patient safety and ensure accurate registration.
• Record messages and communicate with appropriate medical staff; obtain signatures on forms and consents.
• Enter complete demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle processing; verify insurance benefits and payors.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required and pursue collections at point of service.
• Scan and maintain medical records; assist with patient transfers between hospitals.
