Job summary

Fenwick & West seeks a Legal Support Analyst to support attorneys and clients across U.S. offices. This hybrid role involves preparing filings, monitoring deadlines, and organizing patent documents using firm databases and USPTO portals.

Ideal candidates will have 2-3 years patent prosecution experience, a bachelor’s degree, and strong organizational and communication skills to operate in a demanding law firm environment.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and write for routine office submissions.
• Solid understanding of legal transactions and calendaring requirements.
• Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks under pressure.
• Strong interpersonal and professional communication with diverse groups.
• Willingness and capacity to travel if necessary.
• The position is non-exempt and reports to the Legal Support Analyst Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Generate reports from firm databases and outside databases of client patent applications and portfolios.
• Prepare and organize materials for Information Disclosure Statements for USPTO filings.
• Prepare and send formal documents including assignments and declarations to inventors for execution and record with USPTO.
• Prepare and file US National Stage (371) applications with the USPTO.
• Monitor upcoming patent-related deadlines and generate reports and materials.
• Prepare documents for filing by attorneys, patent agents and paralegals.
• Organize and obtain file histories from USPTO, co-counsel, and other sources.
• Utilize firm databases and third-party tools (PatSnap, Orbit, USPTO Patent Center) and MS Office applications.
• Review docket daily to flag urgent deadlines to attorneys/agents/paralegals.
• Draft, revise and finalize patent documents and forms.
• Proofread and suggest edits on patent-related documents.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
