Job description

At Soho House, a Pastry Cook I collaborates with the Pastry Chef to create, craft, and develop simple, rustic, approachable yet memorable desserts, pastries, or other sweet goods. Responsible for all aspects of the Pastry Kitchen, including prepping, production, à-la-carte, and COGS. A Pastry Cook I is efficient, effective, and experienced in executing high-quality treats, tastes, and recipes.

A successful Pastry Cook I is a critical team member due to their diverse and specialized skill set, with proven ability to execute all menu items, work at every station, and deliver consistent pastries from prep to plate, ensuring quality through production.

Main Duties
  1. Prepare delicious, house-made pastries, following recipes, contributing creatively, and working autonomously on all pastry stations to deliver à-la-carte or production-based pastries in a fast-paced environment.
  2. Support the Pastry Chef on the line and with inventory, including purchasing goods to ensure the kitchen functions at optimal performance with sustainable food costs, while maintaining wastage, oven temperatures, and quality. Educate line staff on COGS and its impact on profit and loss.
  3. Supervise Pastry Cook(s), including onboarding and on-the-job training.
  4. Adhere to health and safety policies (e.g., IIPP, workers' comp procedures, allergy procedures) and ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, standards, and applicable laws.
  5. Pay precise attention to detail and efficiently create à-la-carte dishes, including family meals.
  6. Assist the Pastry Chef with end-of-shift reports and handover sheets.
  7. Maintain company target goals and uphold Soho House Standards for service (3-8-10).
  8. Be a positive influence under pressure and foster a welcoming work environment to boost staff morale.
Required Skills/Qualifications
  1. Minimum of 3+ years’ experience in a fast-paced, upscale, and approachable environment.
  2. Strong understanding of making pastry dishes from scratch and plating à-la-carte and production items.
  3. Proven ability to execute all menu items and deliver top-quality dishes on all stations.
  4. Food handler’s certificate.
  5. Strong communication skills, ability to take direction, be a team player, and motivate others.
  6. Proactive in building professional relationships and arriving early to work for briefings.
  7. Flexible schedule, available to work mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  8. Creativity in developing recipes from scratch.
Physical Requirements
  1. Ability to seize, grasp, turn, and hold objects with hands.
  2. Ability to work on your feet for at least 8 hours.
  3. Ability to move quickly between different parts of the club.
  4. Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
  5. Occasional kneeling, bending, crouching, and climbing.
