Job Description:

The Student Services Specialist position is a part-timeprofessional position. The Student Services Specialist will assistthe Director in the implementation of the Educational Talent Searchgrant project; provide counseling services that will enablestudents to develop personal, educational, and career goals;coordinate and maintain communication with students, families, andcommunity resource agencies to enhance the welfare of theparticipants; and provide a variety of educational services in apositive and professional manner to low income, potential firstgeneration college students, students with disabilities, andtheirfamilies. Additionally, the Student Services Specialist will assessthe eligibility and needs of high school students; conduct programvisits with project participants; plan, schedule/coordinate collegetours; maintain student records; and provide statistical datapertaining to student participation, attendance, and other projectfactors. The successful candidate must be able to work effectivelywith a diverse group of students, parents, faculty, staff, andother personnel within the College and public-school systems. Tomeet grant project objectives, the Student Services Specialist willbe required to travel in-district on a regular basis and mayoccasionally be required to work a flexible schedule, includingevenings. This position reports to the Program Director,Educational Talent Search.

This is a grant-fundedposition.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from an accreditedinstitution that holds accreditation recognized by the U.S.Department of Education and approved by the College with abachelor’s degree in education, social work, or a related field isrequired. Two years of experience in career counseling, recruitmentservices, academic advising, student services to individuals, or inpublic school teaching is required. Successful results of abackground check are required.

Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibilityrequirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of §435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations.Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will bedeemed not qualified to hold employment in this position. A FloridaDepartment of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check willbe conducted on every successful candidate as a condition ofemployment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverseinformation contained in the background investigation at the timeof submitting the employment application will be disqualified fromemployment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Prefer experience working withpeople from culturally diverse low-income homes, and students withdisabilities; coordinating educational projects and activities;documented public speaking experience; and working knowledge ofMicrosoft Office software (including Word, Access, andExcel).

HOURLY RATE: $21.50 (Maximum 29 hours per week for 42weeks)
