Qualifications

• Must be a certified Phlebotomist and hold a valid California Phlebotomy license (CPT).
• 1–2 years of direct lab experience in a large healthcare system (preferred).
• Knowledge of scientific terminology.
• Thorough knowledge of lab regulations and ethical requirements.
• Familiar with hospital infection control and patient safety.
• Ability to perform phlebotomy collection and specimen handling.

Responsibilities

• Performs specimen processing, accessioning, and phlebotomy (heel and finger sticks).
• Provides customer service and clerical support; communicates with laboratory customers.
• Maintains records, inventory, and equipment; ensures a safe work environment.
• Operates instruments and performs preventative maintenance as appropriate to the section/dept.
• Adheres to current laboratory safety standards and quality controls.
• Travel between UCSD sites may be required.
