Job summary

The role requires current phlebotomy certification in California (CPT) and 1–2 years of related lab experience, with strong knowledge of medical terminology and infection control practices. Flexible hours and travel to UCSD sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Must be a certified Phlebotomist and hold a valid California Phlebotomy license (CPT).
• 1–2 years of directly related lab experience preferred in a large healthcare system.
• Knowledge of Scientific Terminology.
• Thorough knowledge of laboratory regulations, laws, and ethical requirements.
• Knowledge of Hospital Isolation, Infection Control protocols, and patient safety.
• Ability to perform basic collection, specimen preparation, storage and disposal.

Responsibilities

• Perform specimen processing, accessioning, phlebotomy, heel and finger sticks.
• Provide customer service and clerical support; ensure effective communication with laboratory customers.
• Maintain accurate records and supply inventory; uphold safety standards.
• Operate instruments and perform preventative maintenance as assigned.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and adhere to safety protocols.
