Job summary

UC San Diego is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to perform specimen processing, accessioning, phlebotomy, and related clerical duties under direct supervision in our clinical laboratory.

You will interact with laboratory customers, ensure accurate record keeping, handle specimen storage and disposal, maintain a clean, safe work environment, and support instrument maintenance as needed.

Qualifications

• Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification required.
• Knowledge of hospital isolation, infection control protocols, patient comfort/safety, and medical terminology.
• Knowledge of laboratory regulations, laws, and ethical requirements.
• Ability to perform the duties of the position.
• Experience with specimen collection, preparation, storage, and disposal of specimens.

Responsibilities

• Specimen processing and accessioning.
• Phlebotomy including heel and finger sticks.
• Customer service and communication with laboratory customers.
• Clerical duties, record keeping, and supply inventory.
• Maintain a safe work environment and comply with safety standards.
• Operate instruments and perform preventive maintenance as appropriate.
