Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (Per Diem) for Hillcrest Clinical Lab in San Diego, CA. The role performs phlebotomy, specimen processing, accessioning, and related clerical duties under supervision, with a 20% appointment and rotating 8-hour shifts.

The successful candidate will hold CPT certification, know infection control practices, and be capable of high-volume specimen handling while ensuring patient comfort and safety.

Qualifications

• Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT).
• Knowledge of Hospital Isolation, Infection Control protocols, patient comfort/safety, and medical terminology.
• Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory regulations, laws, and ethical requirements.
• Possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
• Demonstrated skills/knowledge in basic collection and specimen preparation, storage, and disposal of the specimen.

Responsibilities

• Performs specimen processing, accessioning, phlebotomy, heel and finger sticks, customer service.
• Clerical duties, record keeping, supply inventory and maintenance, as well as cleaning and maintaining a safe work environment.
• Operates instruments and conducts preventative maintenance as appropriate to the section/department assigned.
• May travel to another location to perform duties and assist with staffing coverages.
