Job summary

VisionWorks is seeking a Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant to prepare patients for both onsite and remote examinations, perform pre-exam testing, and clearly explain each step of the process. You will act as a liaison between patients and Optometrists and contribute to the early stages of the patient journey.

The role includes registering patients, collecting medical history, assisting during eye exams, guiding remote testing, coordinating with retail staff, and maintaining accurate EMR

Qualifications

• One year of related experience.
• Optical or healthcare background preferred.
• Medical office/business professionalism required.
• HS diploma, GED or equivalent related job experience.
• Training provided.

Responsibilities

• Complete patient registration and gather medical history and ocular health data into EMR.
• Assist onsite doctor with eye examinations and clearly explain preliminary tests; document results in EMR.
• Assist remote patients through remote eye exams: pre-testing, specialty testing, and video conferencing.
• Transition patients to a retail associate after exams and convey doctor recommendations.
• Understand MVC plans and articulate plan benefits to patients.
• Preauthorize insurance according to SOPs.
• Schedule appointments and manage exam books, including no-shows and cancellations.
• Maintain patient flow to maximize doctor effectiveness.
• Answer clinical questions in person and via phone; triage ocular emergencies and schedule annual exams.
• Maintain complete and accurate patient records per company standards.
• Instruct patients on insertion, removal, cleaning, and care of contact lenses.
• Place diagnostic contact lens orders and notify patients when available.
• Know contact lens brands/parameters and pull trials when requested.
• Maintain clean, safe clinical environment and equipment; prepare equipment nightly.
• Participate in training and complete required clinical certifications.
• Ability to travel to other locations and work flexible schedules.
