Job summary

Visionworks of America is seeking a Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant to help ensure a great patient experience by preparing patients for exams, performing pre-exam tests, and explaining each step of the process.

The role supports onsite and remote examinations, collaborates with Optometrists, and guides patients through pre-testing, insurance preauthorization, and scheduling while maintaining accurate EMR records.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience required.
• Optical or Healthcare background preferred.
• Medical office/business professionalism required.
• HS diploma, GED or equivalent related job experience.
• Training provided.

Responsibilities

• Complete patient registration and submit medical history and ocular data into EMR.
• Assist onsite doctor with patient care and explain preliminary testing; document results in EMR.
• Assist remote patients with remote eye exams: pre-testing, testing, and video conferencing with remote doctor/technician; document results.
• Transition patient to retail staff with doctor recommendations.
• Preauthorize insurance per standard operating procedures.
• Schedule exams and manage exam books, including contacting no-shows and cancellations.
• Maintain patient flow for doctor effectiveness.
• Answer clinical questions; triage ocular emergencies and schedule annual eye exams.
• Instruct patients on contact lens care and handling; place diagnostic contact lens orders.
• Maintain clean, stocked environment and equipment; ensure nightly coverage.
• Travel to other locations as needed for coverage.
