Job summary

Theuniversityunion in Durham, NC is seeking a Part-Time Member Engagement Specialist to welcome members, drive sales, and connect people to YMCA programs and services.

You will support staff, supervise facility operations, and help deliver member experiences consistent with the YMCA mission. Weekend/evening shifts are required and CPR/First Aid certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• High School diploma and 1-2 years experience in Customer Service and/or Sales environment.
• Professional in demeanor, genuine, nurturing, welcoming, courteous, friendly, and relate well to customers.
• Strong computer skills and the ability to understand customer relationship platforms.
• Exceptional communication and customer service skills; self-starter and able to work independently.
• Ability to relate to diverse groups and handle multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
• Must obtain YMCA CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Administering Emergency Oxygen within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Builds relationships with members and provides excellent customer service.
• Handles tours, sales, and membership initiatives; cross-sell programs.
• Acts as member advocate and concierge on duty, fostering member connections.
• Promotes volunteerism as part of the member experience.
• Supports Welcome Center and desk operations to ensure quality member service.
• Opens/closes and supports weekend facility coverage.
• Collaborates with Directors on engagement improvements based on feedback.
• Manages cash transactions and shift reconciliation.
• Identifies process improvements and participates in changes.
