Job summary

Columbus Metropolitan Library is seeking a part-time Customer Services Specialist for the Franklinton Branch. Starting pay ranges from $18.01 to $23.26 per hour, commensurate with experience.

The role focuses on delivering excellent customer service, processing library materials, assisting with accounts, and supporting technology access for patrons. Scheduled shifts include Monday/Wednesday mornings, Thursday evenings, alternating Fridays/Saturdays, and Sunday afternoons.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to express self effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of Internet and database services.
• Ability to operate library technology including PC, email, software programs (Windows/Microsoft Office) and other equipment.

Responsibilities

• Process and sort materials accurately, including returned materials and new acquisitions.
• Greet customers, answer basic reference questions, locate materials, assist with library technology, and support program preparation.
• Assist customers with library card accounts, process applications, verify information, enforce rules, and handle payments.
• Balance cash drawers, reconcile receipts, prepare deposits, and complete reports.
• Resolve account disputes by interviewing customers and negotiating solutions.
• Assist with opening/closing procedures, maintain supplies and public materials, and manage bulletin boards.
• Maintain library collection by processing withdrawals, pulls, and reviews for suitability.
• Provide training on library technology to customers and staff, and troubleshoot tech issues.
• Coordinate volunteer activities and orient new staff to tasks.
• Perform additional duties as assigned including committees or task forces.
