Job summary

Columbus Metropolitan Library in Columbus, OH, is seeking a Customer Services Specialist at the Franklinton Branch for part-time with a 20/24 hour schedule. You will be the first point of contact, helping patrons, guiding to resources, and supporting daily operations.

Responsibilities include processing materials, account support, cash handling, technology assistance, and coordinating volunteers. The role emphasizes customer service, problem solving, and teamwork in a busy library setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D required.
• Able to express self effectively in writing and orally.
• Knowledge of Internet and database services.
• Ability to operate library technology including PC, email, software (Windows/Microsoft Office).
• Reliable transportation to report to job assignments.

Responsibilities

• Process and sort materials accurately for returns, reservations, and new materials.
• Greet customers and answer basic reference questions in person or via phone/email.
• Assist customers with library card accounts, process payments, and enforce account rules.
• Balance cash drawers and prepare deposits; reconcile receipts.
• Resolve customer account disputes through interviewing and negotiation.
• Maintain operations including opening/closing, supplies, and neat appearance.
• Provide training on library technology to customers and staff.
• Coordinate volunteers and orient new staff to tasks.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
