Job summary

The Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) is seeking a part-time ESOL Instructor for Rio Salado Community College in Tempe, AZ. This grant-funded, temporary role offers $28.00 per hour and up to 19.5 hours per week, with a varied schedule from Monday to Thursday.

The instructor will provide in-person and synchronous ESL instruction, support students' progress, maintain records, and participate in professional development to meet Arizona Adult Education standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education or related field required.
• Experience teaching ESL, Language Arts, or Reading.
• Must hold or obtain Arizona Adult Education teaching certificate within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Teach in-person and synchronous ESL instruction using approved methodologies.
• Monitor student progress and refer resources as needed.

Job Summary

Provides in-person and/or synchronous instruction and supports students' independent computer-assisted learning in English as a Second Language (ESL) content areas including reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar, Civics, Workforce Readiness, Career Training, and Student Success for adults. Develops students' English language proficiency, study skills, and academic readiness to transition to college or career pathways. Follows required curriculum contextualized to local in-demand industries, MCCCD fields of interest, and Arizona Adult Education Standards for instruction. Utilizes and integrates technology in the classroom to develop students' digital literacy skills.

Provides case management support for students, including referring students to appropriate resources, monitoring individual progress and needs, and collaborating with colleagues and support staff to promote student success and retention. Engages in student assessments, progress data review, and attendance record maintenance to guide instruction, retain students, and meet grant program requirements. Participates in professional learning to maintain Arizona Adult Education Certification.

Essential Functions

• 70% - Provides in-person and/or synchronous instruction in English as a Second Language (ESL) content areas including English Foundations, Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, Grammar, Civics, Workforce Readiness, Career Training, and Student Success using approved instructional methodologies. Delivers standards-based curriculum aligned to the Arizona Adult Education Content Standards through classroom preparation, curriculum implementation, assessment and/or grading, and meaningful student feedback. Follows all professional teaching standards as outlined in the Arizona Adult Education Teacher Standards for English Language Learning. Incorporates digital literacy and technology integration throughout instruction. Utilizes approved contextualized curriculum, the designated Learning Management System (LMS), and approved proxy platforms to deliver and manage instructional content.
• 10% - Monitors student academic and English language progress through required assessments and ongoing review of student performance. Supports student success by maintaining awareness of career training and postsecondary opportunities, sharing appropriate resources with students, and completing required referral documentation as directed.
• 10% - Maintains accurate attendance, assessment, and instructional records, including synchronous instruction, LMS participation, and other required program documentation to support Arizona Adult Education grant requirements and student retention.
• 10% - Engages in required professional learning and job-embedded training to maintain Arizona Adult Education Certification requirements, participates in program meetings as assigned, and performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• A. Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field
• B. Experience teaching in one of more of the following: English, ESL, Language Arts, Reading
• C. Must hold or obtain a valid Arizona Adult Education teaching certificate (which includes AZDPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card) from the Arizona Department of Education within 60 days of the hire date.
