Ethiopian Tewahedo Social Services in Columbus, OH, is seeking a part-time youth program assistant to support ESL learners and assist site staff at the Columbus Bilingual West location.

You will recruit students, facilitate activities, help maintain site operations, and coordinate with teachers, parents, and schools. The role requires strong communication, organization, and adaptability; college degree preferred and minimum high school diploma or GED; 20 hours weekly, on-site afternoons.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting ESL or immigrant youth is a plus.

Basic FunctionResponsible for working with youth in the early stages of learning English, assisting with site staff supervision, recruiting students, facilitating the youth program activities, maintaining the site, and performing program-related assignments as needed by the Site Coordinator. This position is part-time at 20 hours per week, with 12 of those hours on site at our Columbus Bilingual West location from 3 pm to 4 pm.ResponsibilitiesSupport teachers/tutors in meeting the needs of ESL students.Help the new immigrant student integrate to their new life in the U.S.Lead student recruitment and parent engagement efforts.Assist with management of day-to-day operations of the program sites, including organization, maintenance, cleaning, safety, and security.Assist with maintenance of student files, progress reports, attendance, and other necessary participant documentsAssist with establishing and maintaining relationship and communication with youth and parents and staff regarding student’s needs and progress.Assist with establishing and maintaining communication with the participant’s school regarding student’s needs.Assist with coordinating and recruiting tutors and tutor volunteersAssist with planning curriculum activities and supervising implementation.Perform other duties as required by the Site Coordinator.Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and program special events.SkillsOral communication skills Professionalism InterpersonalWritten communication skills Flexible Team PlayerOrganization Bilingual Computer skillsEducationCollege degree preferred.
