Job summary

DC Army National Guard recruits Horizontal Construction Engineers to operate bulldozers, roadgraders, and other heavy equipment for clearing sites and preparing runways and roads. Training leads to civilian construction skills and potential certifications.

Personnel progress through Basic and Advanced Individual Training, earning a regular paycheck during drill weekends and access to tuition assistance and healthcare benefits.

Qualifications

• Must enlist in the Army National Guard.
• Must be between the ages of 17 and 35.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Willing to train for construction equipment operation.
• Must pass a physical exam and meet standards.

Responsibilities

• Level earth for runways and roadbeds, and clear areas for construction.
• Clear, excavate, and dig construction sites and spread fill material.
• Transport heavy equipment and building materials using appropriate vehicles.
• Assist in combat engineer missions as needed.
