Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students across elementary, middle and/or high school to support academic success, attendance and positive behaviors. You plan and monitor progress for individual students and work with teachers on in-class instruction and student assistance.

Training of 2–4 weeks is provided at the start of the year, and you will collaborate with partner teachers and school staff throughout. Benefits and education awards apply per AmeriCorps programs.

Qualifications

• Experience in coaching and mentoring students.
• Ability to plan and monitor student progress with data.
• Strong collaboration with teachers and school staff.

Responsibilities

• Coach 1:1 and small groups of students.
• Develop literacy and/or math activities tailored to student level.
• Create and implement a behavior management system.
• Foster interpersonal skills through daily practice and reflection.
• Collaborate with teachers to monitor student progress in City Year data systems.
• Create a safe, engaging classroom space with teachers.
