Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students across elementary to high school levels, helping improve academics, attendance, and behavior. You will plan and monitor progress and partner with teachers to support in-class instruction and student assistance.

Training is provided; you will collaborate with school staff throughout the year and participate in reviews of student data in City Year’s data system, while receiving a bi-weekly living stipend and AmeriCorps benefits.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident; DACA status not eligible.
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and math activities by student level
• Create and implement a behavior management system
• Monitor and record individual student progress in City Year’s data system
• Collaborate with teachers to support in-class instruction and student assistance
• Create a safe, engaging classroom space with teachers
• Support whole school initiatives to increase engagement with students and families
• Engage in extended day and virtual programming for students before, during and after school
